The honed KTM RC 8C is back for 2023 with the Austrian manufacturer unveiling a re-tooled ‘second generation’ model for a new limited edition run of the track-only sportsbike.

First revealed last year, the RC 8C represented KTM’s first large-engined sportsbike since the shortlived but much-loved KTM RC8 was discontinued in 2010 after a brief sale run.

Based around the architecture of KTM’s shuttered Moto2 chassis project, with the original RC 8C proving an instant sell-out success for the company, it has gone back to the drawing board to introduce a more powerful, better equipped second generation update.

Powered by a tuned version of KTM’s venerable LC8c inline twin-cylinder engine, the 2023 RC 8C gets a 7bhp power hike to 135hp and produces 98Nm of torque at 8,250rpm, which coupled to the machine’s feathery 142kg dry weight gives it one of the best power-to-weight ratios of any track-only sportsbike on the market.

Adjustments to the throttle response, engine braking adjustment and traction/launch/anti-wheelie control are also included, plus a new titanium Akrapovic exhaust system and parts pulled from KTM Racing’s parts bin.

Developed in conjunction with Kramer Motorcycles, KTM’s official communication states that ‘whether a rider is the next Brad Binder seeking training mileage or the next Red Bull MotoGP rookie on the path to Grand Prix stardom, the refined electronics mean that any setting of traction control, mapping and engine braking can fettle the 2023 KTM RC 8C to match the level of ability (or ambition).

Bearing a striking resemblance to the KTM Moto2 bike that contested the intermediate grand prix series until the conclusion of the 2020 season, the RC 8C’s eye-catching winglets are inspired by the firm’s successful race-winning RC16 concept.

As with the first generation version, the RC 8C will remain an exclusive model with a limited production run of 200 individually-numbered models being constructed.

In addition, the first 30 customers will receive the chance to ride the RC 8C at the Circuito Ricardo Tormo at Valencia, where 'former Grand Prix riders offering track tuition and a full KTM and WP Suspension technical crew on hand to dial-in the configuration of the new bike to the 14-corner Grand Prix venue. Accommodation, food, bike transportation logistics from Austria to Spain and then to local dealers is all taken care of
