Custom kit turns XSR700 into scrambler or café racer

Kit converts XSR from café racer to scrambler or vice versa in under an hour. Apparently.

Custom kit turns XSR700 into scrambler or café racer

A CUSTOM parts firm has made a kit to transform a Yamaha XSR700 into either a drop-barred café racer or a knobbly-tyred scrambler.

The ‘simple-to-change kits’ include two single-piece carbon-fibre tank covers and tail units and ‘transform the XSR700 in under an hour between a café racer-style street machine’ and 'dirt-track-ready scrambler-style bike’.

The work of Taiwanese custom house Rough Crafts, and created for Yamaha’s series of ‘Yard Built’ specials, the kits also include two sets of wheels: lightweight carbon ones for the café racer and forged aluminium ones for the scrambler.

The café racer, called the ‘Corsa Scorcher’, and scrambler, named the ‘Soil Scorpion', also have different handlebars (and the conversion from one to the other is already sounding like more than an hour’s work to us).

The forks are from an R1 while the suspension is digitally adjustable on the fly for ‘tarmac riding or dirt fun’.

Rough Craft’s Winston Yeh said: "I found myself having a hard time deciding should I go with clip-ons and make it a cafe racer, or with flat bars and make it a tracker, that's where the idea came in: why not make the shaping as a body kit, and customers can use their own idea to mix and match suspension, wheels, brakes, handlebars, to build the bike they want?"
