Jorge Martin Moves to Leave Aprilia “I exercise my right to release myself"
Jorge Martin has taken to social media and in one fell swoop confirms the rumours surrounding his Aprilia career

Jorge Martin is exercising his right to end his time with Aprilia, taking to social media to release a statement earlier this afternoon.
The 2024 MotoGP World Champion cites a clause in his contract that allowed him to ‘test the bike in real-life circumstances’. Given that the injuries sustained by the Spaniard have curtailed his season thus far, Martin is calling on that clause to give him an out from the team.

There is no official response from Aprilia at the time of writing, although this is a breaking news story which we’ll update as further news developments come to light.
The full statement from Jorge Martin can be found below.
"Hello everyone,
"I would like to share with all the fans, media, and people who follow my career a clear explanation about my situation with Aprilia.
"At no point have I breached the contract.
"When we signed it, I agreed with Aprilia that, unless certain circumstances arose, I reserved the right to decide my future until 2026. This was an essential condition for accepting the contract proposal they offered me at the time.
"When I made the decision to change brands last year, one of my priorities was to have the opportunity to test the bike in real-life circumstances and understand the connection with the team and its work methodology. This way, I could feel comfortable signing for two years instead of one, and that's why we included that condition.
"Given the need to make a decision on a date established by my contract, I have decided to exercise my right to release myself for the 2026 season. I have always done so with respect, clarity, and the sole intention of taking control of my future as a professional athlete.
"Unfortunately, the circumstances that occurred as a result of the crashes, while they certainly don't affect what we agreed upon, [they] have affected this phase. That's why I've always been open to dialogue with Aprilia to extend this period to a certain number of Grands Prix after my return to racing. All this with the goal of allowing both parties to give each other a second chance and feel comfortable before making a decision for 2026.
"I've always been honest with Aprilia, I've valued the bike, the team, and the efforts of everyone involved in the project. All I ask is that my wishes and the spirit of what we agreed upon with Aprilia be respected.
"There's no conflict or recriminations. I just want to be able to look forward with clarity, after having gone through very difficult times and a very serious injury, and continue giving my best on and off the track.
"Thank you all for your understanding and respect,
"Jorge Martín"
