Highland ceases production

HIGHLAND, the US motorcycle manufacturer has temporarily ceased production.

US Highland lost three of its top executives in July last year when a plane carrying the three men crashed having run out of fuel. The crash claimed the lives of US Highland President and founder Mats Malmberg, 41, Chief Operating Officer Chase Bales, 51, and Chief Financial Officer Damian Riddoch, 37.

Malmberg formed Swedish Highland Motorcycles in 1997 but relocated the production to the USA in 2010. The company started making motorcycles in the USA early last year, and executives said they were planning to make motorcycles and engines for other companies.

A crew was brought in to lead the company after the plane crash, but interim COO J.Darin Long resigned in early December.

“Negotiations are in final stages for the funding,” and manufacturing will resume after a deal is closed, company representative Ron Brewer said in an emailed statement on Wednesday.
