Rutter takes on TT course on KTM 1290 Super Duke GT

TT racer and Performance Bikes test rider Michael Rutter takes the new model for a spin

MICHAEL RUTTER and the Isle of Man – it’s a winning combination…

Add an all-new KTM 1290 Super Duke GT into the mix, and you’re guaranteed the ultimate in promotional videos.

KTM enlisted the help of this year’s TT Zero race winner Rutter, and the 46-year-old gladly obliged, taking the Super Duke from a docile dance around town before heading out for a high speed pass of the Mountain Course, and to drag his knees at the Jurby Motordrome.

The 1290 Super Duke GT features the same 1,301cc LC8 173bhp V-twin as KTM’s Super Duke R, but benefits from redesigned aerodynamics and better wind protection, new WP semi-active suspension settings and a new 6.5-inch TFT dash.

Commenting on the bike, Rutter said: “The GT is a world away from what I usually ride, I was amazed by the performance – particularly the engine; the torque and drive is phenomenal. Very impressive.

“Comfort is a big factor; the seat and bar position were spot-on at speed on track and on the road. For a bike designed to tackle a variety of riding types – having a blast and all-day touring – it works fantastically in all situations, even ridden hard on the fast and bumpy Jurby circuit.

“Best of all, it has heated grips – a big thing for all year riders and even for summer in the UK!”
