Motorcyclists have greater life satisfaction than other commuters

Driving make you want to rip out your hair? Get a motorcycle.

DOES riding to work make you happy? Well according to a new survey it does.

The report shows that people who commute by motorcycle enjoy greater life satisfaction than those travelling to work by car, bicycle, bus, taxi, or on foot.

Approximately 60,200 people responded to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) survey, answering questions about happiness, anxiety and life satisfaction.

The questions asked were the same four as used each year in the Annual Population Survey (APS), these are:

  • Overall, how satisfied are you with your life nowadays?
  • Overall, to what extent do you feel the things you do in your life are worthwhile?
  • Overall, how happy did you feel yesterday?
  • Overall, how anxious did you feel yesterday?

Subjects were asked to respond to the questions giving their answers on a scale of 0-10 where 0 is ‘not at all’ and 10 is ‘completely’.

The most miserable commuters were those who chose to get into work by taxi.
