Motorcycle theft soars in Bolton

Stronger car security deters thieves, 156 motorcycles stolen in 2012

POLICE are reporting a worrying rise in motorcycle theft across Bolton, with 156 motorcycles stolen already this year.

Police believe that thieves are targeting motorcycles as cars are becoming increasingly difficult to steal, with advanced anti-theft technology as standard.

Motorcyclists in the area are being advised to park their motorcycle in a garage or around the back of their property and to use aftermarket security, like a disclock, chain or alarm immobiliser.

Police have targetted various groups they believe are responsible and although theft has decreased, it hasn't stopped.

Last week, the motorcycle industry launched a motorcycle anti-theft scheme.
