Moped rider faces jail over double assault

A MINDLESS moped rider looks set to go to jail after attacking two motorists in separate incidents 10 minutes apart.

This week, Croydon Crown Court heard how 23-year-old Jayce Simms squirted ammonia into his eyes of motorist Alan Muir on June 20 last year at a set of red lights in Croydon.

Less than 10 minutes after the unprovoked attacked, Simms was involved in a separate altercation with another motoris Kevin Field, knocking him to the floor with a single punch. The attack was also unprovoked.

Simms, who was riding a Gilera moped at the time of both assaults, pleaded guilty to a charge of administering a noxious substance, and also admitted possession of an offensive weapon but denied causing grievous bodily. An offence for which he was still convicted.

In court, Judge Warwick McKinnon told Simms: "These were two very unpleasant assaults and custody is inevitable."
