Simoncelli to become MotoGP Legend

MARCO Simoncelli is to be inducted in the MotoGP Hall of Fame, becoming the 21st rider to receive the MotoGP Legend status.

The Honda Gresini rider will be awarded the title at an honorary ceremony before the Italian GP at Mugello in June.

Simoncelli’s racing career was tragically cut short when he was killed after losing control of his bike, veering him into the path of oncoming riders Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi.

He won the 250cc World Championship with Gilera in 2008, moving up to the MotoGP class four years later.

Other riders in the prestigious list include Giacomo Agostini, Mick Doohan, Mike Hailwood, Kevin Schwantz, Barry Sheene and Casey Stoner.
