Upturn attributed to boost in scooter sales

Italy's moped sales show biggest increase

MOTORCYCLE, SCOOTER and moped sales in Italy rose by 4.9% in 2007, to just over 566,000 units.

That said, ANCMA, Italy's association for the motorcycle industry, reports that although scooter and motorbike sales were lower than in 2006, the defecit was made up by sales of mopeds, which rose 11.86% to 130,696. Top seller was Gilera with 42,767 units.

Honda's Hornet 600 was top selling motorbike, selling 8,982 units.
