Claire Lomas to attempt London Marathon in wheelchair and biker gear
Paralysed Claire Lomas MBE will attempt to complete the 2020 London Marathon in her wheelchair... while wearing full biker leathers and helmet
British campaigner and fundraiser Claire Lomas MBE has announced she will attempt to complete the 2020 London Marathon in her weelchair… and a full bikers kit.
A former event rider, Claire was involved in an accident during the Osberton Horse Trials which left her paralysed from the chest down.
Claire has since made headlines the world over for her fundraising and philanthropy, becoming the first person to complete the London Marathon using a robotic walking aid in 2012. Walking two miles a day, Claire completed the full 26.2-mile distance in 17 days, in so doing raising £143,000.
As well as being a devoted campaigner, Claire is an avid motorcyclist, a past-time that forms the basis for her latest attempt at the London Marathon… competing in a wheelchair while wearing full biker gear including leathers and helmet.
Claire has been charting her training sessions on her Facebook page, where it is possible to donate to her – she has a target of £5,000 to raise, and a personal best she wants to beat by days!
"My fundraising page to help Whizz Kidz (a brilliant charity helping disabled children get mobility equipment they so deserve) is now up. I am grateful for all donations and a real boost before the training session today!
"Considering pushing from the pit lane to garage in motorcycling gear feels hard -the London Marathon is going to be a gruelling day and so is the training!"
