Box-Fresh Ducati 748 SP With Five ‘Push Miles’ Up For Auction

The Ducati 748 SP variation boasts a host of upgrades over the standard bike, and this might be one of the most original on the planet

Love the practice, or loathe it - the act of leaving a bike in a crate and never riding it is a great way of preserving a bike and boosting its future value.

Personally, I don’t have those levels of self-control, and knowing there was some shiny piece of exotic metal just metres from me and begging to be ridden would have me blasting off into the sunset before too long.

Thankfully, the owner of this mint (and we really do mean mint) 1995 Ducati 748 SP had more willpower and managed to preserve this bike in nearly totally original condition.

The SP edition of the 748 was very similar to the standard machine, save for a host of performance upgrades and the fact it could only be ordered in single-seat (monoposto) configuration. The go-faster goodies on the bike included floating front discs, an Öhlins shock, an alloy single-seat subframe, upgraded cams, a reprogrammed ECU, an oil cooler and the obligatory Termignoni pipes. The bike in this auction also sits on a set of lightweight Marchesini five-spoke wheels.

The seller of the bike, who acquired it in 2022, also confirms that the eight kilometres (five miles) shown on the odometer are ‘push’ miles only. The engine has never been started outside of the factory, the fuel tank has never seen fuel and the battery never connected.

The bike is up for sale with Iconic Motorbike Auctions in the US and with three days left to go before the hammer falls, it’s already up to $25,100 (around £19,700).

But our question to you is simple: if you bought it, would you actually ride it?
