Biker’s 200,000 miles on bike he bought aged 17
28 years on and still going strong on the bike he bought after passing his test in 1981
A BIKER from Scarborough has racked-up over 200,000 miles on the bike he has owned since he was 17.
Andrew White, 45, of Newby Farm Road has reached the double tom milestone mileage on the BMW R65 which he bought after passing his test in 1981.
White rode to Jelgava in Latvia to mark the mammoth mileage. He told the Scunthorpe Post: “I really enjoyed the trip. It was interesting going into that area of the world and learning about its history. While I was there I visited a family in Latvia that I knew, they were very kind and hospitable.
“When I bought my bike my original plan was to have it ten years and do 100,000 miles. To have reached 200,000 is amazing. That bike has given me everything and owes me nothing. I paid £2200 for it in 1981 which was a lot of money at the time. However if it blows up tomorrow it’s fair to say I have got my money’s worth. Obviously I have had to have general maintenance done, but really it has been phenomenal.”
