A MAN has been convicted of dangerous driving after police found video evidence of him speeding on the helmet camera of a friend involved in a fatal crash.

Police were investigating the death of Hugh Hannah, 34, of Dumfries, who died in a collision with a car on the A701 road near Moffat on Sunday, May 13 last year.

During the investigation they viewed the footage and observed fellow biker Murray Crossan, also of Dumfries, to be breaking the speed limit.

The 30-year-old was leading a group of friends, which included Hannah, along a 60mph limit road. According to Hannah’s speedo, the group was reportedly travelling at an average speed of 68mph, and in the final half mile before the accident reached a maximum speed of 98mph.

At Selkirk Sheriff Court, Crossan pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and was disqualified for a year and fined £450.

According to the Peeblesshire News his lawyer commented: "This is a case of a prosecution from beyond the grave.

"The man who lost his life was wearing a camera on his helmet and he kept glancing at his speedometer and Mr Crossan was the lead motorcyclist.

"If it had not been for the fatal accident the case would never have come before the court."
