A FORMER CHAMPION motorcycle racer has appeared in court accused of causing the death of a pensioner in a road accident.
Alan Duffus, 62, yesterday denied racing his BMW against Grant Whyte, 22, on January 24 last year. Dundee High Court heard the pair were racing when Whyte lost control of his car, resulting in the death of 67-year-old Senga Elder, from Auchtermuchty, Fife.
It's alleged the pair were racing at excessive speeds on winding country roads.
Prosecutor Keith Stewart said: "The two accused had a common criminal purpose, to engage in a race and drive dangerously."
The case continues.
