The Bonhams June Online Sale Boasts Bikes and ‘Foggy’ Memorabilia
Bonhams is holding an online motorcycle and memorabilia sale in June, with Carl ‘Foggy’ Fogarty and Mike Hailwood trophies up for grabs

The auction house Bonhams is to hold an online auction in June, with a host of rare bikes and racing memorabilia heading over the auction block.
Up for grabs in this sale, and we’ll focus on the memorabilia in this article, are three lots linked to the World Superbike and Isle of Man TT legend Carl Fogarty, and another lot linked to one of Britain’s most successful motorcycle racers, Mike ‘The Bike’ Hailwood.

Starting with the Foggy lots, there are three: an Isle of Man Production Class D TT replica, a Senior Race TT Replica, and an Arai ‘Rapide’ helmet used during the 1988 season. The production class replica is for finishing 9th place in the Production Race in 1987 and is inscribed with the words' '1987 TT Races Production Race D 9th C Fogarty 100.72 M.P.H'. The estimate for that is £500 to £700.

The Senior TT replica is the more eye-catching of the two trophies, finished in silver and awarded for coming second in the 1992 Senior TT race. It was that year when Foggy's lap record, 18 minutes, 18.8 seconds (123.61 mph) riding a Yamaha 750 cc, was not broken until seven years later. That trophy is estimated to sell for between £2,000 and £3,000.

The final piece of Foggy history is one of the Lancashire rider’s Arai helmets, as used during the 1988 season. Painted in Foggy’s distinctive design, complete with rose motif on the front, the helmet has been verified by the racer’s helmet painter, Mike Fairholme. He’s identified the lid as Carl’s and confirmed that it’s an Arai Rapide, a model that wasn’t officially imported to the UK.

The final piece of racing memorabilia of note in the auction is a lot including Mike ‘The Bike’ Hailwood memorabilia. It includes a 1959 Snetterton 350cc Class trophy, a 1960 Snetterton 350cc fastest lap trophy, a lighter engraved 'M H', a selection of programmes, two books, a canvas painting of Mike Hailwood aboard a Honda, a Mike Hailwood print, two Cadwell park ticket stubs, a 1977 Paddock pass for Oulton Park and two models. The estimate for that haul of trinkets is between £500 and £800.
