‘Can’t believe it!’ - Teams, riders react to 2020 Isle of Man TT axe
Teams and riders have been taking to social media to express their disappointment that the 2020 Isle of Man TT has been cancelled over coronavirus
Riders and teams have begun reacting to the unexpected decision to cancel the 2020 Isle of Man TT as a direct result of the coronavirus pandemic sweeping the globe.
Motorcycle racing has been steadily shutting down as a result of the strict measures being introduced around the world, including restricted movement and border controls, but while many were expected the TT to be postponed, it was instead cancelled completely.
Though the Isle of Man currently has no confirmed cases of coronavirus (as of writing), the government says it has a duty of care to protect residents from large numbers of international travellers visiting the small island.
The news came as the UK government issued fresh guidelines, advising people to remain at home where possible. The Manx Government has said previously it will follow the UK’s policies on coronavirus.
Despite the extreme move – which marks the first TT cancellation since 2001 when the foot and mouth crisis was unfolding - there is a general acceptance that the decision is correct.

Fully supportive of todays decision, thoughts to everyone affected by the coronavirus. Let’s all pull together and be kind throughout this.On a personal note my TT debut can wait until 2021 and my mum can breathe a few months earlier than expected! #yourHealthisyourWealth https://t.co/qnhGYhqgfx
