BRITAIN’S Jake Dixon will be leaving the pre-season Moto2 test at Portimao in extremely high spirits, after topping the timesheets on day one and finishing day two in P4.

This year Dixon is riding for the Aspar Team GasGas Moto2 machine, after making his MotoGP debut last season aboard the Petronas Yamaha for his home Silverstone round.

Now with full focus on the middle tier of the world championship, and a season of Moto2 competition already under his belt, Dixon seems to be finding his feet well in the hyper-competitive class.

The former BSB race winner set a best time of 1:42.040, a time that would have been good enough for pole position at last year’s inaugural Algarve Moto2 Grand Prix.

Crash.net reports that Dixon was spending most of the laps evaluating his performance on both new and used tyres, with little to no set-up changes made to the Asper Team GasGas Moto2 bike.

"Day two done. It has been a positive day, just riding: I haven't changed anything. I'm just trying to get the flow, feeling good on the bike and around the track," added Dixon.

"I have been running on old tyres, I was fast in old and new and I’m looking forward to day 3, to see what we can do, continuing in this way, doing a lot of laps on the last day before Qatar."

The pre-season Moto2 test wraps up today at 6pm.
