O'Halloran beats Ray for first 2022 pole | BSB Donington qualifying results

Qualifying for British Superbikes round three at Donington Park saw Jason O’Halloran claim his first BSB pole position of the season.

Jason O’Halloran took pole position in qualifying for round three of the 2022 British Superbike Championship, and he will head a slightly depleted grid in race one later today.

The depleted field is due to a crash for Danny Kent at the end of FP3, after which he was diagnosed with concussion and sent to hospital.

When qualifying eventually got underway around Saturday lunch time, Josh Brookes showed his personal fastest speed of the weekend to go sub-1:06 in Q1, topping the first session ahead of his PBM Ducati teammate, Tom Sykes. Ryan Vickers, Storm Stacey, returning reigning champion Tarran Mackenzie, and Chrissy Rouse also advanced from Q1 to Q2, while a big crash for Luke Mossey at the end of the first session has left the TAG Racing Honda team with a lot of work to do ahead of race one.

Brookes was unable to repeat his 1:05 of Q1 in Q2, which really cost him. The Australian will start from 15th, but his compatriot, Jason O’Halloran, will start from pole position for the first time in 2022, and indicates a return to form for the #22.

The OMG Racing Yamahas who dominated Friday will join O’Halloran on the front row, with Bradley Ray in second place, and Kyle Ryde third; while Rory Skinner will head row two ahead of his teammate, Oulton Park race three winner Lee Jackson, and Peter Hickman who will start sixth.

Tom Sykes was on the front row briefly in Q2. His strength at Donington in WorldSBK was in the final sector, with the stop-start Melbourne Loop section, which is of course missing from the National layout that BSB are using this weekend. Nonetheless, he went sub-1:06 himself in Q2, which put him seventh on the grid for race one, and he will be joined by Tarran Mackenzie and Glenn Irwin on the third row.

Ryan Vickers completed the qualifying top 10, and will start from the front of the fourth row, where he will be alongside Leon Haslam and Storm Stacey.

A crash for Andrew Irwin meant he was unable to set a competitive lap time in Q2, and will start from 18th.
