Dipping a toe into the electric scooter market, SEAT launch the MO eScooter 125

MO stands for mobility, and SEAT are keen to explore options for electric mobility going forward - orders are now being taken for the SEAT MO eScooter 125.

SEAT has started taking orders for their MÓ eScooter, the trendy looking 125cc equivalent that underlines the Spanish manufacturers focus on affordable electric mobility going forward.

Now available for order at 24 SEAT dealers in the UK, the MÓ (short for ‘mobility’, or ’movilidad’ in Spanish) is priced up at £4,996 with the utilisation of the Government’s OLEV EV grant, which incentivises the switch to electric by discounting up to £1,500 from the final price.

Key to remember here is that this scooter aims to solve an urban mobility problem, not a 'let's go on a 400 mile round trip by electric' problem.

If you think it looks the same as the Silence S01, you’d be correct. The MO scoot was developed in partnership with the Barcelona-based electric scooter manufacturer, with this SEAT rendition finding itself OTR at the same price point, but benefitting from the in-house R&D team for ‘improvements to the battery and a rigorous testing procedure’ pre-release.

This takes us to the spec of the 2022 MÓ. Equivalent to a 125cc scooter, the Brushless electric motor is rated for a peak power of 9 kW and maximum torque of 240 Nm, giving a 0-31 mph time of 3.9 seconds. Nippy! That 240Nm of torque figure is just the wonders of electric power.

With the removable Lithium-ion battery rated at 5.6 kWh, you'll have an estimated range of up to 85 miles per charge (no doubt in the eco mode) and an AC recharge time from any 240V 3-pin socket in 6-8 hours.

The 40kg battery unit can be wheeled away with a built-in extendable handle and caster wheels, so charging in the home/office is possible without lugging the whole scooter inside with you. Also worth noting is the CBS braking system with electric regeneration - although typically this would do well to give you an extra percent of charge over the course of a full 85-mile run.

Its sleek and modern look is paired with practical features (like reverse gear, centre stand and large under-seat storage supposedly big enough for two helmets), and tech gadgets like a USB port, On Board Unit (OBU) with SIM connected to the smartphone app and LCD screen.

Realistically this scooter is on par with many of the other electric scooters on the ever-growing eco-friendly mobility market, but with a huge household name like SEAT dipping its toe into the market, it’s sure to be a success.

We asked SEAT about the future of electric mobility with the brand, and were told that they are committed to bringing electric mobility to the market in whatever form that may take - constantly reviewing and updating its offering reflecting consumer demand.

With the introduction of low emissions zones in cities, changes in travel patterns following COVID, and now fuel demand spikes, it’s difficult for a brand to make solid predictions for future demand. But by bringing this escooter to market, it’s certainly a sign for other manufacturers to sit up and take notes.
