2020 KTM 1290 Super Duke R revealed – Overview & Full specs

The 2020 KTM 1290 Super Duke R has received its full world premiere at the 2019 EICMA show in Milan following numerous previews and teasers.

Another manufacturer to use the 2019 event to give its flagship model an overhaul for 2020, the KTM 1290 Super Duke R follows up the all-new Ducati Streetfighter V4 and Kawasaki Z H2 to give buyers in the market for a premium sporty naked both choice... followed by a difficult decision.

One of three new KTMs to be unveiled at EICMA – along with the new KTM 890 Duke R and KTM 390 Adventure – the new 1290 Super Duke R has shed weight, gained power and received a facelift to take it into the new year.

The first KTM 1290 Super Duke R to benefit from the knowledge gleaned from its burgeoning MotoGP project, the 2020 mode comes with an entirely new chassis and an update in electronics.

Under the skin, the reworked LC8 1301cc twin-cylinder engine generates 180HP at 9,500rpm, as well as 140Nm at 8,000rpm of torque.

From the outset, the lighter frame is accentuated by the KTM 1290 Super Duke R’s distinctive trellis frame, complete with orange finish and a darker matte finish on the paint.

The 2020 KTM 1290 Super Duke R comes as the Austrian firm looks to consolidate its positive fortunes in the two-wheel market having posted nine consecutive years of rising sales. Having strengthened its partnership with Bajaj Auto, purchased Spanish company GasGas and better defined the role Husqvarna plays in the company. It has also committed to competing in the MotoGP World Championship for another six seasons.
