The National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA) has launched its Safe to Ride campaign, aimed at introducing as many people to the world of motorcycles as possible – as safely as possible.

The campaign looks to take advantage of a shift in the popularity of traditional public transport, as people look for more socially distanced forms of transportation. Motorcycles in particular have become a firm favourite among urban commuters. With new riders and those returning to two-wheels seeing now as the perfect time to get a motorcycle.

While getting on a powered two-wheeler and hitting the open road is an exhilarating feeling for any new rider, the NMDA also wants to ensure that all riders are correctly kitted out for the journey. It reminds riders that a helmet is mandatory, but protective boots, jackets, trousers, and gloves are all essential, especially in winter.

Paddy O’Connell, Head of the NMDA said:

“Motorcycles represent the best option for those who want to avoid public transport and with just a single day of Compulsory Basic Training needed, the transition to Power Two Wheelers is very easy.

“Motorcycles offer a ‘COVID-safe’ way to get from A to B, they are cheap to run, environmentally friendly, easy to park and, being able to avoid traffic jams, they give you freedom and a fun way to travel or commute.

“Following the strong uptake of PTWs in the summer months, NMDA will continue to work with dealers to encourage more people into the motorcycle world”.
