SUZUKI has just announced it is to hold an online global motorcycle event on the 5th of February to showcase its 2021 model range.

The event is being billed as a ‘next-generation communications platform’ allowing fans and prospective customers to get a feel for the 2021 product range – just without having to pay £7 for a coffee…

As with a conventional show, users will be able to check out the bikes on display and get an in-depth look at the specs of each machine. Users will also be able to configure machines to meet their own requirements and can even interact with other visitors in the event in real-time.

Suzuki will look to host future new model launches on the new Global Salon platform, too, with fans from around the world able to virtually attend and witness the reveal of new bikes as they happen.

While Suzuki isn't giving much (or anything...) away about what may or may not be revealed, the fact it hasn't launched a brand-new model since the V-Strom 1050 at EICMA in 2019 suggests now would be the perfect moment to pull something very exciting out of the bag.

The only definite new model on the way is an electric Burgman scooter, but we also know a new parallel-twin platform to replace the SV650 and V-Strom 650 has been in the works for some time so this could be the moment to unveil. We also know a new Hayabusa has been on the cards for years now but with Euro5 strangling its potency recently, there is talk a fresh version is closer than ever. Then again, given Suzuki's gestation period from announcement to reveal is measured in the multiple years, it really could go either way...

The event is taking place on smartphones and laptops, with a dedicated SMGS (Suzuki Motorcycle Global Salon) bringing users to the event. At the time of writing this, the app for the event is not yet released but we’ll update you on when that happens.

The doors to the virtual event will swing open on the 5th of February, with registration for the event beginning on the 28th of January.

The event has no end date that suggests it could be an always-open affair, with Suzuki updating with new models as time progresses.

We’ll be one of the first to rush the entrance and will bring you a full update as the event begins.
