Former superbike star will have his passport returned after nine months stranded in Dubai

Sean Emmett cleared over wife’s death

SEAN Emmett has finally been cleared by Dubai prosecutors of any involvement in the death of his wife during their honeymoon.

The former superbike star has been prevented from leaving Dubai since his wife Abbie’s fall from a fourth-floor hotel window in February, days after their wedding.

Yesterday Emmett was told a criminal enquiry was closed and his passport would be returned by Dubai authorities, allowing him to return to the UK.

Abbie’s death was originally recorded as suicide, although Sean says it was an accident. He was questioned by Dubai detectives last month after prosecutors announced they were re-opening the enquiry into the 27-year-old’s death.

Sean, 43, from Addlestone, Surrey, wrote on Twitter yesterday: ‘Well it's as official as it gets, the Embassy have had a call from the Public Prosecution to say the case is closed.’

He added today: ‘I'm working on my passport, submitting a letter to the prosecutor to try & speed things up. Hopefully have it within 2/3 weeks.’

Abbie fell from a fourth-floor window of Jumeirah Creekside Hotel in Garhoud on February 19, during a 48-hour stopover in Dubai following the couple’s wedding in Cape Town, South Africa.

Sean said in an interview she had drunk more than two bottles of wine and dropped her wedding ring from the window. He said: "She kept leaning out of the window. I said 'please stop leaning out of the window like that'

"I was by the door - bearing in mind we were in a big suite. I was looking at her and saying please stop leaning out of the window, I'm going to find the ring.

"The next minute her feet went up in the air and she was out of the window.”
