Moped thieves knock cyclist unconscious in Preston

A 33-YEAR-OLD man has been left with serious head injuries after being pushed off his bicycle by masked moped-mounted criminals.

The incident took place on at around 8:30pm on the 19th February, as the cyclist was travelling into Preston city centre. The assailants confronted the victim and a woman, then chasing the male with their moped along Aqueduct St.

After already pushing the victim from his bike, he attempted to make off and escape when one of the assailants dismounted the moped and ran after him, eventually catching him and pushing him from the bicycle. The victim came off the bike and crashed into a wall, where he has sustained serious head injuries.

It’s been reported that while the victim lay unconscious, one of the men searched his pockets looking for valuables.

The victim was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition. Lancashire Police are now appealing for dash cam footage from anyone who may have been in the area that evening.

DC Fabian Spence of Preston Police said: “The victim has suffered serious injuries and we are doing all we can to find those responsible. We need people to come forward with any information they may have to assist our investigation.”
