Knievel’s Cow Palace to be demolished
'It contributes nothing to our community'

IT WAS the venue for one of Evel Knievel’s most famous jumps – the place where he had his much publicised fight with the Hells Angels, and now it looks like the Cow Palace venue in San Francisco is about to be demolished.
"The Cow Palace has outlived its usefulness," said City Manager Patricia Martel Events. "It contributes nothing to our community. Why would we keep it?"
The Cow Palace in San Francisco has hosted some of the biggest musical acts in the past half-century, from the Beatles in 1964 to Elvis in 1970 to Metallica in 2004, and it was at the Daly City venue that John F. Kennedy gave his 1960 speech that first outlined his idea for the Peace Corps.
Fans of Knievel can still get their fix of the King of the Daredevils with the news that construction of the Knievel Roller Coaster is coming on at a pace at the Six Flags Park in St Louis. The wooden roller coaster is promised to be one of the most incredible ever built, as homage to the 1970s icon.
