TO RIDE a motorcycle and be stylish at the same time is a feat achieved by very few.

Unfortunately, I have never been one of them – until I came across the Furygan Legend jacket. Paired with a Bell Bullitt, Draggin’ Twista jeans and a sweet pair of boots, I look the bee’s knees. I dare you to disagree… Even Shoreditch couldn’t say no to me in this get up.

But I digress. The Legend jacket appealed for a number of reasons – its understated nature, fitted female shape and plush red silk lining.

Stylewise, it ticked all the right boxes (although the panther logo on the back does remind me a little of the Lonsdale Lion). Plus, it offered pretty decent protection -  D3O armour in the shoulders and elbows, Furygan’s Skin Protect lining and reinforced stitching on areas likely to tear in a crash. In a size small I could comfortably fit a thermal top, fleece and back protector underneath and still have room to spare.

One criticism I have – and it’s not limited to Furygan – is the lack of variety in women’s motorcycle clothing. The Legend is the only female leather jacket offered by the brand in the UK, and the smallest size is equivalent to a UK 10, which isn’t particularly small. I would have gone a size down for a better fit.

I’m also not that keen on the look of the circular zip toggle, despite its apparent ease of use. And I was even less impressed with how bloody stiff the zip itself was. Understandably it needs to be strong, but you also need to be able to operate it with one hand.

Finally, when new, the Douglas leather is extremely shiny and stiff, and you’ll need to wear it a fair few times to achieve the casual cool Steve McQueen look.

Once worn in, however, it’s a good go to jacket for custom, cruiser and classic bikes alike. Although at £379.99 you’re going to want to get a lot of wear out of it.
