Yamaha TMAX 560 (2020) First Impressions

Yamaha TMAX 560

Visordown gets its hands on the 2020 Yamaha TMAX 560 ahead of getting out on the city streets and the mountains around Lisbon

In a year that has already seen the launch of the new Yamaha R1 sportsbike, the Japanese manufacturer showed it has not forgotten its humbler offerings with the recent EICMA reveal of the 2020 Yamaha TMAX 560 maxi-scooter.

Now in its seventh generation, the Yamaha TMAX has become a common sight across Europe’s urban commute – particularly in Italy – with more than 275,000 units being shifted since 2001.

With the ‘Mk VII’ getting its world debut in Milan, Visordown is getting ready to hit the streets of Lisbon in Portugal to put the Yamaha TMAX 560 through its paces in its natural habitat to discover if it is as nippy, comfortable and refined as Yamaha claims.

Prior to that though, we’ve gotten our hands on one to bring you are first impressions from up close…

The 2020 Yamaha TMAX scooter receives an upgraded version of the 560cc two-cylinder engine, which increases maximum power by 3.5% and has been tweaked to offer greater torque versatility. It also now meets more demanding emissions standards across Europe.

Considered one of the sharper looking scooters on the market, the 2020 Yamaha TMAX has retained the similar sport-inspired aesthetic that has made it popular and shares a number of traits with its larger motorcycle siblings.

Notably, the tapered rear-end gives the TMAX a slimmer silhouette, as well as offering the ergonomic benefits of easier access. It also features new LED flashers, plus a T shaped rear light to differentiate it from the current model and mimic the R1.

As well as Lisbon’s city streets, we’ll be stretching the Yamaha TMAX’s ‘legs’ in the surrounding mountains to discover if it’s as comfortable out of the urban jungle as it is in it.
