Overall Review

This bike is gorgeous, half-fast, stops well, starts most of the time, turns heads everywhere (if you change out the exhaust), is not prone to problems (once you get it "sorted out", which I have been fooling around with since I bought it new in 2004). It has an avid following of dedicated enthusiasts. They change out the clamp-on bars for Italian aftermarket part and often choose radical color schemes and custom renditions. Twice i have considered selling it, but now I know it is here for the duration. If you can find a nice V11 Sport it can become the "keep it forever" bike that nobody else owns. After more than 100 motorcycles (lots of Japanese years ago, I finally found peculiarly special attraction with which all Guzzisti are afflicted and this quite simply designed sporter will steal your heart! Oh yes, and the torqueing that occurs when you goose it is a pleasure to experience and part of the charm of the motorcycle. This bike is to be enjoyed in a reasonable manner. It was not built to "beat" anybody, but rather to always give the rider a ticket back to the old school, the European road bike for the graduate from the racing crowd. It is a rare mix of all the qualities we seek and seldom find. I have many unusual steeds in the stable, but invariably the one the expert, the neophyte, and the civilian alike are fascinated with-is the Goose. And then I start it!

Strengths

Install any aftermarket exhaust and the lovely, almost V8, sounds bellow forth, that Basso rumble with which you play lovely music with your right hand. It is enchanting to all. And it is a gorgeous beast with all quality components and design from the old school. Nowhere will you find even a common fastener. It has the "component look" of all the bikes we love. It is as if each part of the bike does not depend on the other for its satisfactory quality design and rendering. If you tire of the position, pick any speed, lean back and fold your arms. Even in mild gusts it is straight as an arrow.

Weaknesses

I have a gremlin never found, you must hold the starter button and shake hell out of the bike, and, voila, that does it every time! The rear wheel must be removed to change the clutch fluid (the drain fitting is in front of the tire and entangled in framework. While the wheel is off, the driveshaft must be greased. Manual claims three nipple, some say less. Never seen the nipples on mine! The cross-pipe in front of the engine apparently cannot be made to not get loose after the next heat cycle. The right mirror comes swinging at 100 plus ( I must mild loktite that). Shop Manual is online.

Overall Review

I sold mine after 6 months as I'd been spoilt by Japanese bikes reliability, how ever I still have a soft spot for one, and would have one in a garage if I had room.

Strengths

Rare sight, comfortable, build quality pretty good. Unique v twin , attracts crowds, reasonable handling

Weaknesses

Brake calliper s fail, intermittent electrical faults typical of guzzi s built at this time.initially poor value retention, but appear to be going up in value now
