Blackbird - brilliant sports tourer, solo or 2-up

Super-smooth, huge reserves of power and torque, comfortable, ultra-reliable, adequate weather-protection, comfortable over long distances. Averaged 41.1 mpg over 18K miles. Liked the linked braking, and never had any problems with it. Handled well.
Easy to go a lot faster than you realise. As I aged, I found it less easy to hold the crouch, even with bar-risers and peg-lowerers. Still hung onto it twice after almost part-exing for FJR1300s.
Loved the 'Bird, and enjoyed every mile of the 18,000 or so in the six years I had it. Put it in part-ex for a - wait for it - Deauville (yes, really) which is a great little tourer, but still miss the 'Bird. Consoling myself with a Speed Triple for solo riding.

Rock solid touring missile

Comfort, Tank range, Touring ability, Loads of accessories and aftermarket kit to personalize your bike.
Its a weighty old beast at 240Kg
Can't knock the old girl it does a wonderful job of getting you where you are going in comfort and quickly. The linked brakes are superb and the handling is fantastic, ok not as spritley as an R1 or Blade but still good for its bulk. The build quality is second to none... Everyone should try one at least once you would seriously be impressed.

Fast, smooth an comfortable, but a heavy old bird.

Good faring, large fuel tank and relatively relaxed riding position mean that all day touring at speed is easy. More power than you ever really need, and can provide flexible overtaking at just about any revs. Great provision for a pillion, and built to very high standards of Honda quality. A centre stand makes maintenance easy, and a lack of complex new electronics make it home mechanic friendly.
The long wheelbase and relatively heavy weight mean that the bike is not the most agile for back lane blasts, and the linked brakes mean that backing in or mid corner adjustment on the back brake tends to stand the bike up. Ground clearance is also a little iffy when leant over.
A fanstastic alrounder, and shows just where Honda need to improve the VFR 1200. It doesn't truly lead any biking category, but it's ability to cover large distances with ease make it still a solid choice even now.

Refined POWER

Smooth and powerfull engine. An iron fist in a velvet glove.
Stable handling.
Good gas milage.
Ultra fast.
SS exhaust that looks great and sounds nice.
Stock handle bars are a little low. I like the VFR 800 bars on mine.
I do not believe there is another machine that offers better real world performance when all factors are considered.
