THE calendar for the 2012 British Superbike championship has been announced, revealing that the series will include a round at Assen next season.

For 2012, the BSB series will continue with the same 12-round, 26 race format including the three-race Showdown, but alongside the eight major UK circuits the domestic championship will feature a round at the famous Assen circuit in the Netherlands.

The 2012 season commences at Brands Hatch on its traditional Easter weekend slot in April before heading to Thruxton one week later and Oulton Park in May. BSB then returns to the Snetterton 300 circuit before visiting Knockhill for the annual Scottish round in June and Oulton Park for the second time in early July. The summer Brands Hatch round on the Grand Prix circuit has been brought forward to 20-22 July to avoid a clash with the London Olympic Games.

Two weeks after the August Bank Holiday at Cadwell Park, Donington Park in Leicestershire will now host the critical final round of the Main Season on 7-9 September. The Showdown will take place at two current MotoGP venues with the Silverstone Arena GP circuit following Assen on 28-30 September, before concluding at the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit in October.

what the hell.... i think its an awsome move to go to assen but surely that just goes against all the cost cutting measures theyve pushed in the last few years?

Yeah, I would agree there. Just how much extra is it going to cost to ship the whole paddock out to Holland for a weekend??? But, what the hell, be great racing...

Have noticed on book of face a lot of people slagging this idea off. Needless to say, most of these people are not particularly "clued up"...

I'm not sure, dropped Croft and sent them to Holand, we already have WSB and this is BSB right? but I know it's money that makes the world go round (well maybe not in Europe)

I think it's a cool idea, what a ride out with the boyz...

I wouldn't think it would cost the teams anymore than the trip to Knockhill. Probably less! Lets face it the Assen TT Circuit always delivers some good racing.

Is Croft better than Assen? Will this bring LOADS of Brit riders to the attention of the WSBK paddock and possibly CRT and Prototype Moto GP teams? As reekytoe??? says, will it cost anymore than it does to get to Knockhill for most teams?

Answers below:

1. IMO, No.
2. Yes, no doubt
3. Wouldn't have thought so.

Sorry, thats a REALLY stupid way to write this all out.

LOL

yep cheers, that pretty much takes all the racing away from the north of england. The place with some of the best and quietest roads around will see nothing of their heroes

I live in Brighton, and last year I managed to get to Silverstone (twice), Brands and Donington. If you wanna watch the sport you love, you'll make the effort imo..

Croft was my closest track. But to be brutally honest, croft is abit of a dump and i have no complaints. Plus its an excuse to have a weekend away in the NL. Good Times. If you lived anywhere near croft you can quite easily get to cadwell/oulton and donnington in a couple of hours. Leeds to cadwell in 1 hour 25mins. aahhhhemmmmmm.

why 3 rounds at Brands? could one round be transfered to Croft! not everyone can afford to travel 300 plus miles and stay a hotel or camp overnight, the trip is not doable in one day and see a full days racing.

Croft is not a dump, and BSB racing should be represented in the North East , I also went to Silverstone MotoGP and WSB and Croft for the BSB round plus the Ulster and Goodwood but that isn't the point.
Not everyone is that fortunate and some can't travel, so the show must come to them not go to Holland, keep the jobs and money in the UK.
There I feel better now ;-)

On a purely selfish level I'm disappointed... I live in the NE and won't be able to travel to many meetings next year because I can't afford it. Croft isn't a world class track but it has character and I'll miss it.
