Yamaha planning £300 motorbike for India

Yamaha aiming to increase Indian sales to two million by 2016

YAMAHA have set a target for boosting their sales in India by introducing a bike priced at £300.

Last year the Japanese manufacturer sold 520,000 bikes in the Indian market and with the new bike they are looking to increase this figure to two million by 2016.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal Hiroyuki Suzuki, chief executive of Yamaha's India division said: "We have so far done well with our premium motorcycles in India and now we think is the time to address a bigger part of the market where volumes are high."

Yamaha currently sell the Crux 110 and YBR125 in Indian, priced around £400 and £500 respectively. "Just about one in every 25 people in India owns a two-wheeler," Mr. Suzuki added. "There is a huge scope to attract more buyers with a fuel-efficient product that is priced reasonably."
