KTM Super Duke 1290 revealed

American “Patriot” edition shown to dealers

THE KTM Super Duke R 1290 isn’t a secret. It was shown as a concept bike last year and has been spied on test several times since. But the production model was shown to dealers in America and these pictures have been posted online by an employee of the Kiska design agency that styled it.

Last month we posted pictures of a prototype KTM 1290 SuperDuke and now this is the real thing.

Posted on the derestricted blog (blog.derestricted.com), operated by one of Kiska’s graphics designers, these shots are a reaction to the grainy cameraphone images emerging from the dealer meeting, and show the bike in all its glory.

Ok, so we’re not taken by the paint scheme (Stars? Check. Stripes? Check. Eagle? Check. All clichéd American 4th-of-July and apple pie tests passed…) but the bike itself looks better than the spied prototypes suggested. And with nearly 1300cc of RC8-derived V-twin punching out something approaching 200bhp, it’s going to be a lunatic.

You probably won’t be able to actually get the blue one in the UK, and somehow a British-oriented version would be worse still (what logo would they have on the tank to replace the eagle? A pot of tea? The Queen’s head?) we’re guessing paintwork along the lines of the original orange concept bike – pictured with the blue production version – will be offered.

'Patriot Edition' is a one-off as a welcome for the US dealers meeting at KTM.

Colour options? Maybe the ones shown here http://www.superduke.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=20560&start=525#p265011

Suck it Ripsaw. Have fun paying $150% for the same motorcycle.

WTF is " $150% "?

Actually I think it's the Yanks that will be paying extra for this bike; doesn't the import duty placed on foreign motorcycles brought into the USA (to protect Harley sales) mean this bike will be more expensive there?

Ripsaw - the answer is this: pretty much everything has a "patriot" version in the US, it seems. I think I saw a "patriot" mosquito killer the other day. The yanks just buy any old crap if you tell them it's patriotic to do so.

Ripsaw. - They're brainwashed from an early age. I think they have to sing along to the Star-Spangled Banner anthem from their first day at school and fed bullshit about the American "Dream".

The bike looks great though - minimal flab and maximum grunt - can't wait to try it.

I spent three weeks touring California and the South West states last year and its a fantastic country - friendly people, great levels of service and stunning scenery - I don't blame them for being patriotic.

Great bike though

The casual jingoism shown by europeans and especially brits on visor down is atrocious, being an american myself, I must say your attitude is born out of a resentment that your country reached its apogee 100 years ago, and that you hate us but still listen to our music, obsess about our celebrities, watch our TV, go with your family to see our movies....the US has its problems, but it's better than most, get over yourselves, you sound like abused stepchildren.
