THERE’S no doubting the fact that KTM will make a production version of the 1290 Super Duke concept bike it showed last year – the big question is how close the showroom machine will be to that concept.
And if this image is anything to go by, it will be pretty close. Where earlier spy shots have shown a hacked-about bike with a Duke 390 headlight, this one has a unique headlight that mimics the shape of the concept’s front number board and suits the rest of the styling much better.
OK, so the concept’s dual exhausts have gone AWOL, but since they had no silencing to speak of, let alone catalytic converters, that’s hardly surprising. And yes, the production version misses out on those WSB-spec front forks, which is a shame but should ensure the price is around £10k lower than it would have been if they were included!
Talking of price, the word is that the Super Duke 1290, will be somewhere in the region of £14,000. That’s a lot, but given the bike’s performance (we should be looking at 180bhp-plus from a near-1300cc version of the RC8R’s engine) it isn’t too ridiculous.
