Kawasaki Ninja 400R - more details emerge

The market's there - so why isn't Britain getting the bike it needs so badly?

OFFICIAL PICTURES and full specifications of Kawasaki's 2011 400 Ninja have surfaced, following the news that Kawasaki UK won't be importing the learner-friendly machine into Britain.

Last week Visordown brought you the first glimpse of the 44bhp machine, along with the news that Kawasaki UK has NO plans to bring the liquid-cooled 203kg (kerb weight) 400 into Britain.

The decision not to bring the bike into the UK has been met with some controversy; many believe the new machine would be the perfect answer to the country's stock of ageing 400cc imports, many of which have been in use for over 20 years.

Latest details from Japan show the Ninja 400 bristles with some of the latest motorcycle technology, including: full digital instrumentation, sexy sculpted swingarm, underslung exhaust, 'cassette-style transmission, petal disc brakes, an LED rear light and aggressive Ninja-style bodywork.

It's more than enough to get any post-test newbie slavering at Kawasaki dealers all around the country. The demand's there, so come on Kawasaki UK, pull your finger out!

I'd love one of these - who's importing?

Why would someone buy one of these when they could have the 650? There would,nt be any difference in price. The 650 twin is around the same power as the old 400s so i dont think there would be a market for the 400.

Right OK, so i've had a chat on the phone with a Kwak UK rep, and they've said that although they as of yet have no plans for importation to the UK, that if they recieve enough demand, then they'll reconsider.

So if you really want this bike, or if you fancy lending those who do a hand, get on the phone to Kawasaki UK and ask about it. The more people who do, the more likely it is that it'll happen. Sorted

I've just bought a Ninja 250R and I definitely wouldn't have had this bike been out instead.  Having returned to biking after a few years in the wilderness (I used to ride a Z650), I couldn't believe that no one is manufacturing fun small to mid-size sports bikes anymore.  It's not about purchase cost (yes I know that for only a bit more you could get a 650), it's the whole deal that appeals with these small bikes, especially given the shocking price of petrol that's no doubt here to stay.

I get over 70mpg on the 250, tax is peanuts as is insurance.  If it had a teeny bit more power/pull (like the 400 would), it'd be perfect for your average newbie/commuter.  It seems to me that biking has been taken over by wealthy weekend warriors who are happy to blast around on a bike with worse fuel consumption and running costs than your average transit van.  I'm not denying the appeal of the super sports bike, but there must be a market for people in my position who actually want to use motorcycling as a mode of transport.

Seriously Kawasaki - lead the charge and start making economical and fun bikes that actually give people an incentive to leave the car keys at home!

Nice looking bike but only 44bhp? the old zxr 400's made nearly 60bhp think it should be at least as powerfull as a 20 year old bike?
