Driver scraps van after leaving biker for dead
Peterborough Crown Court hear the harrowing story of Daniel Peeling, left for dead after van driver flees the scene of the crash
A VAN DRIVER who collided with a young motorcyclist before leaving him "for dead" tried covering his tracks by scrapping his vehicle just an hour after the incident, a court heard.
Peterborough Crown Court heard yesterday how Daniel Peeling suffered multiple injuries, including a brain injury, a fractured skull, a broken jaw, broken arms and a broken leg and spent nine days in intensive care after his motorcycle was hit by a van driving on the wrong side of the road in June 2008.
Daniel Devon, 21, who is believed to have been driving the Ford Transit van at the time of the incident, denies all knowledge of involvement in the crash.
However, Police found one of Devon's van registration plates at the scene of the crash. The jury went on to hear how Devon had been seen at a local scrapyard with the van less than an hour after the collision.
In court Daniel Peeling described how his injuries had affected his life; Mr Peeling has lost the use of his right arm because of brain damage and cannot walk unaided.
Devon denies a charge of dangerous driving. The trial continues.

You all know what the outcome will be. The driver will get done for dangerous driving, 6 months inside, out in 3. If you walk down the street with the intention of harming someone with a weapon then the consequences are much worse. I don't know why the courts work this way but a 3 ton van (or whatever it weighs) seems like a pretty good weapon to me. Also, the punishment is always softer when it involves a car/van etc. Look at the famous case where that footballer killed a few people whilst driving dangerously. Jerry's final word: If you want to hurt someone then do it whilst driving.

I didn't see anything in the article that suggested the collision was a deliberate act of the driver, though his attempt to conceal the evidence clearly was.
I'm not defending the driver by the way, just questioning the analogy.

Makes me sick, If people took the law into their own hands I think we would soon see the justice system change... If you get caught doing 130MPH on an empty motorway more than likely go to prison lose job maybe lose home cos you can't pay the mortgage without a job. Kill or seriously injur someone and you get a slap on the wrist. I bet he doesn't even get banned or prison most likley a fine and a few points.

Devon was sentenced to 21 months in prison and disqualified from driving for six years for dangerous driving, three months in prison for failing to stop and failing to report an accident, to be served consecutively, and disqualified for a year, and disqualified for six months for driving with no insurance and disqualified for six months for driving with no licence.

And he'll be out in half that time, plus banning him wont do fuckin thing, he's obviously the kinda cunt that doesnt give a fuck anyway so why the judge thinks banning him will any diffirence fuck knows. The "law's" fucked.....fact As speela said.....if we took the "law" in our own hands.....the suits would maybe act fast, but there wankers too

Yep he is a total twat but the comment regarding him doing half his sentance says it all, justice and the law are not easy bed-fellows. Instead of halfing some scum bags sentence if they behave themselves whilst behind bars maybe we should look at it another way. If the prisoner does not behave him / her self then their sentence is increased, if they act as they should (ie good) then they get out on time after serving their full sentence. Doubt this will catch on as i am sure the general public would agree with it this alone will put this spineless govt off it totally.

"Devon was sentenced to 21 months in prison and disqualified from driving for six years for dangerous driving" Compare that to the case of David Saxby, who was found guilty of dangerous driving for overtaking a car on the brow of a hill, despite the fact that it's a very long straight road and so if you have been watching you know if there is anything coming at that point. (OK there could be a parked car there but the odds are going to be relatively low) The prosecution tried to claim the accused had been riding at 139 mph but in fact the video posted on the police web site clearly shows the police bike doing this speed and rapidly catching up with the accused, so how the copper could claim to estimate the accused speed escapes me. For this offence he was sent down for 12 months and banned for 6 years. Seems little difference in the penalty for a hugely different set of activities.

Why do they ban these people from driving for x amount of years? They should just ban them for life. I watched a program the other night where the police waited for and caught a woman that had been stitched up for driving without a licence. They gave her a bollocking and told her not to do it again. I just don't get it sometimes.

Hope he goes to a prison where all the bikers are sent for speeding. That could make for an interesting time in the showers. The guy's a cunt, so why not treat him like one.

When he comes out he may or may not have a visit from some unsavoury people , to me this was an accident that escalated and he had the option to treat it as an accident and help the biker , it escalated into murder when he willingly ignored the plight of the motocyclist who he has collided with , he has to pay Heres hoping someone thinks the same and dishes out some real justice

Another great thread resurrection. Six months after it happened, I dare guess he's been sentenced. Do y0ou never look at the dates of threads?

No doubt this bstrd will get off with a community order , given the fact if you ride a motorcycle fast you get a fuckin jail sentance . If it was me i would put him in the fucking crusher his van was going in
