WSB Portimao test: Rea quickest

Perfect start for Castrol Honda in the first World Superbike test session of 2011

THE FIRST official laps of the World Superbike season got underway today with Jonathan Rea topping the pre season test at Portimao.

In a perfect debut for the returning Castrol Honda, Rea lead the majority of the session logging the quickest time of 1'44.055. Following closely was Jakub Smrz on the new Liberty Racing Ducati, .058 behind the Rea.

2010 WSB Champ, Max Biaggi started the new season campaign consistently in third place, with new Suzuki Alstare recruit, Michel Fabrizio and Tom Sykes on board the new Kawasaki ZX-10R rounding out the top five.

The session saw less than ideal performances from the Yamaha team and Carlos Checa. The Spaniard was sandwiched between Eugene Laverty and WSB convert Marco Melandri, closing out the tail end of the timesheet.
