WSB boss looks to resurrect Imola 200

Paolo Flammini planning on bringing 200 mile race to the World Superbike calendar

A FEW weeks back World Superbike boss Paolo Flammini revealed his intentions to BSN for select 200 milers during the season, running longer races with pit stops instead of the traditional two leg format.

According to GPOne, it seems that one proposal Flammini has suggested is the resurrection of the famous Imola 200 - a historic race that was launched in 1972 as a rival to the Daytona 200 - with the proposal put to teams in a meeting ahead of the race at the Italian circuit this weekend.

The idea has been met with interest, but there remains some doubt in regards to the cost element with having to introduce an endurance method of replacing tyres and refueling.

Paul Smart (pictured above) was victorious in the first Imola 200, winning Ducati's first major race 30 years ago.
