Nicky Hayden in critical condition following cycling accident

2006 MotoGP champion is in a medically induced coma following yesterday’s collision

NICKY HAYDEN is in a critical condition after being hit by a vehicle while ycling in Italy.

Honda World Superbike rider Hayden, 35, is said to have been hit head on by a car was out with a large group of cyclists. It’s reported that he was separated from the group when the accident occured and got thrown over the bonnet and into the windscreen of the car, breaking the windscreen.

Italian local news site Rimini Today broke the story and have photos from the accident scene.

Hayden is said to have suffered severe head and chest trauma. He was taken to hospital in Rimini but moved to Cesente hospital because he may require surgery.

Hayden’s condition was described as critical yesterday and he has been put into a medically-induced coma.

Italy’s Corriere Romagne newspaper this morning reported that Hayden has ‘made it through the night but is still in a serious condition.’

Hayden’s head trauma continues to be a concern for the medical team tending to him and the hospital has said it will release further information at midday today.
