Davies secures the 2011 WSS title

Welshman victorious in the Supersport championship with one race left

CHAZ DAVIES took home the 2011 World Supersport championship a round early after an impressive season campaign that saw the Welshman take five wins and seven podiums on the Yamaha R6.

Davies look set to secure the WSS crown at the last round at Imola, but the 24-year-old suffered a mechanical fault that denied him the race win and the chance of an early title victory. Moving on to Magny Cours, a sixth place finish was enough for Chaz to finally take the top honours after the disappointment from the previous weekend.

The title marks the maiden championship win of Davies' professional career and also the first for the ParkinGO team.

After lifting the 2011 World Supersport championship trophy, Davies said: "It's been an amazing season and it has taken me 15 long years to get me where I am now. There are so many emotions hitting me all at once, I've worked towards this all my life and I still believe I am now in this position. I can't thank my team and Yamaha enough for all their effort.

"I certainly didn't think at the beginning of the year that I’d be here now, taking the championship title. My family and my girlfriend have been behind me all the way and I owe them so much. Thanks to everyone who helped make this magical moment happen."

Davies is tipped to move up to World Superbikes in 2012, possibly remaining with the ParkinGO squad as the World Supersport outfit look at the options for next season.
