AUSTRALIAN Isle of Man TT regular Cameron Donald has been forced to withdraw from this years Classic TT after a training accident has left him with a fractured left wrist and a broken pinned and plated right wrist.
During a dirt-bike event in his home country, Donald crashed breaking both wrists meaning he will be unfit to race in the 350cc and 500cc races at this years Classic TT as his recovery will still be ongoing throughout August.
Speaking to Bennett's, Donald said: “It was pretty muddy in the morning but it was drying out and uphill there was about ten axle-deep ruts I landed cross-rutted and clipped a tree on the side of the track and pole-axed myself over the bars.
“My left wrist only has a very small fracture so that remains out of plaster and should be fine, which is good, but my right one was done pretty bad and I had to get pins, plates and screws put in that.
Talking about testing and race plans, Donald explained: “I just had to let Norton and the team saying that I won't be able to do the upcoming tests or the Classic TT, will have to miss August, gutted, but as they say, sh*t happens, unfortunately.”
Although it is a given Donald will be fit to ride at next year's Isle of Man TT with Norton, Ripley Land Racing - who are racing at the second ever Classic TT this year in August - have not commented on whether they will replace Donald or not.
