Rossi takes new record

Misano victory takes Italian to longest ever GP winning career

VALENTINO Rossi has taken a new world record for the longest motorcycle grand prix winning career after his victory in the latest round of the 2014 championship.

Rossi’s MotoGP win at Misano came 18 years and 27 days after his first ever grand prix victory, in the 125cc class at Brno in 1996.

The previous record holder was fellow Italian Loris Capirossi, with victories 17 years and 49 days apart.

Rossi is the most successful premier class grand prix rider ever, with 81 wins in 500cc and MotoGP races. His overall grand prix tally of 107 wins puts him second in the record books to Giacomo Agostini, with 122.

Rossi also holds the record for the longest winning career in the premier class, at 14 years 67 days.
