Qatar MotoGP test times - day two

Ducati continues to set the pace on second day of Qatar test

DUCATI continued to set the pace on day two of  the MotoGP test in Qatar as Andrea Dovizioso broke the 1.55 mark.

Less that a second separated the top 14 riders on the second day of the Qatar test, in overcast conditions. Most riders waited until the floodlights came on to once again replicate conditions they’ll face two weeks' time.

Dust on the racing line affected riders on day one, but this was not an issue on the second day. Marc Marquez finished a quick lap early on, setting a quicker time than anyone on day one.

It wasn’t long until the Ducatis of Andrea Iannone and Dovizioso picked up the pace, with Dovizioso finished at the top, 0.2s faster than Casey Stoner’s circuit record set in 2008.

The Ducati Team had brought a new exhaust for its riders to test and the ‘winglets’ seen in 2010 also made a reappearance. Iannone finished third, 0.197s behind his team-mate, but only 0.013s behind Marquez.

Marquez’s Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa finished in sixth place. While Marquz searched for the ideal race set-up, Pedrosa evaluated the new fork on his RC213V.

Movistar Yamaha’s riders Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi had issues on day one, but both were able to improve on their times on day two to place them fourth and fifth respectively.

Cal Crutchlow finished the day in seventh place with his new CWM LCR Honda team, 0.717s off the fastest pace despite an early crash. His team-mate Jack Miller finished in 21st place, improving by almost half a second on day one times.

Crutchlow’s fellow Brits Bradley Smith and Scott Redding finished in eighth and 13th place respectively. Smith tried different swingarms and still managed to finish ahead of his team-mate Pol Espargaro, by just one-hundredth of a second.

Redding finished within a second of the leader and completed over 50 laps of the Losail circuit. The Brit completed a full race simulation late in the day.

The Team Suzuki Ecstar GSX-RRs of Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Viñales were 12th and 14th respectively, with both riders struggling to improve on their times from day one as they continued work on ECU set-up.

The two factory Aprilia Racing Team Gresini RS-GPs of Alvaro Bautista and Marco Melandri finished near and at the bottom of the time sheets.
