Pedrosa’s ex-crew chief joins KTM for MotoGP project

Mike Leitner will work closely with KTM's technical race department

DANI Pedrosa’s ex-crew chief has joined KTM Factory Racing to work on the Austrian firm’s MotoGP project.

Commenting on the move to KTM, Mike Leitner said: ‘It will be an exciting and interesting challenge, as we’re starting from scratch. It is nice to see an Austrian company and an owner like Stefan Pierer to start such a great project. There is not much happening from other factories in the German speaking part of the world. I like challenges and I am happy to be part of it.’

Leitner, who was crew chief to Pedrosa for nine years, will work closely with Sebastian Risse, who is head of KTM’s technical race department.

Pit Beirer, KTM’s Head of Motorsport, said: ‘Mike is now the guy at KTM with the most MotoGP on-track experience. He will assist building up a test team and help us to find the right people in the paddock.’

Last year, Stefan Pierer announced that KTM plan to test the bike’s V4 engine in May 2015, and roll out the first ‘RC16’ race bike by Autumn.
