MotoGP 2014: Championship standings after Valencia

Valentino Rossi clinches second in the championship ahead of Lorenzo

MARC Marquez secured the 2014 Championship title in Motegi, but it was down to Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa to fight it out for second place this weekend.

Rossi, 35, secured second in the 2014 MotoGP Championship at Valencia after Pedrosa finished the race in third place. Rossi's team-mate and rival Lorenzo retired in the race after taking a gamble and switching to his wet set-up bike when light rain fell briefly. Lorenzo took third place in the championship.

Pedrosa secured fourth place in the championship and Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso took fifth.

The Espargaro brothers, Pol and Aleix, finished the 2014 season in sixth and seventh place respectively, while Pol's British team-mate Bradley Smith was eighth.

Cal Crutchlow finished thirteenth for the Ducati team despite numerous DNF's due to mechanical faults.
