Repsol Honda renew contract with Marquez

The youngest MotoGP World Champion will continue with HRC until the end of 2016

IT HAS been announced that the reigning MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez has renewed his contract with the Repsol Honda Team until the end of the 2016 season.

As the young Spaniard has broken many world records already in only his rookie season in the premier class and continues to do so in his second year it became HRC’s ‘priority’ to re-sign the 21-year-old.

So far Marquez has won ten races – four of which have been the first four rounds of the 2014 MotoGP World Championship -, six second positions and four third places along with thirteen pole positions.

Marquez said: "I am very happy to announce my renewal with HRC. I had always dreamt about being part of the Repsol Honda Team, and thanks to Honda the dream came true a year and a half ago.

“Everything happened very quickly last season, and I would have never imagined that I could achieve what we did. Becoming World Champion during my first season was another dream which became reality.

“It is a great honour to be a part of the Honda family and I’m glad to remain with this special group of people for another two seasons."

HRC Executive Vice President Shuhei Nakamoto explained their decision to extend Marquez’s contract so early on in the season: "We are very satisfied to have reached an agreement to keep Marc in the team for a further two seasons.

“Of course as Honda we wanted to keep Marc in our family and he also wanted to stay with us so it was natural to renew the contract even if it is very early in the season!

“He is enjoying a fantastic start to 2014 and even though he is still learning, his ability to absorb information and adapt to the machine is remarkable."

The next round is at the Le Mans circuit in France and Marquez leads by 28-points and therefore will remain at the top of the Championship standings after the French GP regardless of the race results.
