UK Arenacross: winter indoor racing series improved for 2017

THE 2017 Arenacross series will kicks off Manchester Arena on January 7 with  a host of changes to the format aimed at improving the already packed live shows.

The series will run in some of the UK’s best-known arenas, and an increased overall prize fund should come as a massive incentive to competitors. The main event prize purse is now £80,675, with a Pro Team fund of £43,925 and Pro Lites cash pot of £15,400.

The always full-on bill at AX nights will include newly-styled ‘Head-to-Head’ races, replacing the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). This means that instead of the top eight riders going through to the one-against-one, points-scoring carnage (as it was last year), the top eight Pro qualifiers will run a superpole-style ‘Hot Lap’ against the clock to gain additional points.

At a time of year with little bike racing going one, AX going fills the void with classes ranging from the headlining Pros to seven-year-olds on 65cc bikes.

AX promoter Matt Bates said: “For decades the UK motocross world was starved of a consistent and professional indoor race series. Now I’m proud to say that when we complete our fifth consecutive year, having paid almost half a million pounds in prize money and attracted almost 200,000 fans since we started, we have one of the best indoor series in the world and it can expand way beyond our imagination. We offer bucket loads of exposure to the industry and a chance for ‘professional’ riders to earn a living from racing dirt bikes.”
