Rossi gets a win!

On four wheels, though

VALENTINO Rossi has taken victory at the Monza Rally Show over the weekend driving a WRC-spec Ford Fiesta.

While not a major event, the Monza Rally Show still attracts some big names, including talented race and rally drivers, so Rossi's achievement in winning isn't to be belittled. Second place, for instance, went to three-times Le Mans winner Dindo Capello – just 2.8s behind after nine stages in a Citroen DS3 WRC. Capello has won the Monza event four times before. Third place man, nearly a minute further back, was Piero Longhi, twice Italian rally champion. Rossi and Capello won all the stages between them; five to Rossi, four to Capello.

Andrea Dovizioso, replacing Rossi at Ducati next year, came fifth in another Citroen DS3, while Jorge Lorenzo – Rossi's team mate next year – was tenth, again in a Citroen. Alessio Salucci, better known as Rossi's mate Uccio, came ninth.

Rossi also won the “Master Show” event on Sunday afternoon at Monza, where rivals went head-to-head in a series of heats on Monza's main straight. He beat Dovi in the semi final and Capello in the final.
