Red Bull Rookies - the Brits are coming

A large number of young Brits have made the shortlist for 2013's Red Bull Rookies series.

TEN British youngsters have made the shortlist for 2013's Red Bull Rookies series out of a total of 106 rider.

The 106 riders will compete in a three-day selection process, where they'll get the opportunity to demonstrate their skills on 125cc Metrakits in a variety of rigorous tests. A maximum of 14 will be selected to join the Red Bull Rookie series in 2013.

The new recruits will join a similar quota of current riders remaining in the Red Bull Rookie series from the current season - there will be 24 riders on the grid in 2013.

Red Bull Rookies runs parallel to the MotoGP World Championship and provides funding and support for promising young riders with no previous Grand Prix experience. The organizers hunt far and wide for the best possible candidates, making a place on the grid a hugely prestigious prize.

The British contingent on the shortlist is the third largest after the Italians and Spanish. A strong British showing in the face of some stiff international competition bodes exceptionally well for the future of British racing.

The British shortlisted are:

Callum Bey
Joe Francis
Stefan Hill
Aaron Maxfield
Conor Parkhill
Lewis Rollo
Ross Simpson
Sam Smith
Taz Taylor
Ryan Watson
