Racer killed at Killalane event

Victor Gilmore, 43, dies following collision in 600cc event

IRISH ROAD RACING has claimed another victim: Popular County Antrim racer Victor Gilmore lost his life through injuries sustained in a high-speed crash at the weekend's Killalane Road Races.

Hailing from Ballymoney, the home town of the legendary Dunlop racing family, Gilmore was killed and a marshal was injured in the collision during Sunday's 600cc race.

Gilmore, a father-of-three and a hugely experienced racer, had already competed in the 250cc and Open class when tragedy struck.

During last year's Amoy road races an elderly spectator, 75-year-old Hill McCook, was killed after being hit by Gilmore’s machine following a crash at the circuit. Ironically, an inquest into the death was due to open this week.
